Dry Eye Condition

Dry Eye Conditions

Dry eyes is a common condition that many don't even realize they are experiencing. If you have any of these symptoms, you may be suffering from dry eyes too:

• Watery eyes
• Gritty or scratchy sensation
• Blurry vision
• Burning sensation
• Difficulty wearing contact lenses

Is just adding drops enough?

Most people will try to use eyedrops or artificial tears, but find it only soothes them for a short period of time. This is because dry eyes are caused by blocked glands in your eyelids, so the eye drops only add temporary moisture to the eyes rather than unblocking any glands.

How do we unblock the glands?

There are a few methods we can use to unblock our glands and soothe our dry eyes that you can choose from.

The final treatment our clinic offers is the Zocular Eyelid System Technology (ZEST®). This is a dry eye treatment and eyelid cleansing service which removes debris, dead skin, oil build up and mites from your eyelids. ZEST® requires you to have the treatment every 6 months and needs to be maintained with daily aftercare with NuLids or the hot compress and eyedrops.

An alternative option is a new treatment called the NuLids. This is a device which uses a water based gel and silicone tips to gently massage and stimulate your eyes, which physically helps to clear the blocked oil glands. You will need to undergo the treatment at the clinic every 3 months, along with daily aftercare routines.

The aftercare routine can also be used as a bare minimum treatment. It is a traditional home care routine where you will use a hot compress, eyelid wipes and artificial tears DAILY. This treatment needs to be done consistently for noticeable relief and these mostly tackle the symptoms rather than the source.
